French 75 Cocktail

Let's look at the history of the French 75 or the Soxiante Quinze as I like to refer to it. The French 75 millimeter was the weapon of choice for the French army during WWI. There were about 20,000 guns made of it's kind during that time.

During 1914, as news of the war spread a bartender decided to craft a cocktail around that "weapon of choice" and the drink was quite simply described as "the most powerful drink in the world, hitting with remarkable precision".

Like many cocktails the recipe has been modified over time but, this one is my favorite:

Ingredients:

1oz. Gin

1/2 oz. Lemon Juice

2 Dashes of Simple Syrup

2oz. Champagne

Preparation: Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into an iced cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or edible flower.

A votre sante!
